Police in KwaZulu-Natal have launched a manhunt for at least five suspects who shot and killed four family members and injured a fifth person in Hluhluwe, Ezinhlongeni village, early this morning.
According to the police, at least five armed assailants entered the homestead and opened fire at a couple aged 64 and 60, they went on to shoot the couple's 32-year-old son, and their 19-year-old nephew who were all inside the same house. KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said that the neighbour, who is believed to be a girlfriend to the couple's murdered son was shot in the legs and is receiving medical attention at a hospital. "Another son who was sleeping in a separate house survived the shooting unscathed."
Netshiunda said that the motive of the shooting has not been established as yet although an intra-family related feud could not be ruled out.
This is the second shooting incident taking place in the same household in just a year. In 2022, the house owner's wife sustained gunshot wounds during a shooting, and the matter is still under investigation. Netshiuda said they are appealing to anyone who might have knowledge regarding the whereabouts of the suspects or information that can assist in the investigation to contact the Amanzimtoti police.
