The Department of Mineral Resources has given South African motorists a great start to the year with petrol and diesel cuts effective from this morning
In a statement the Department said the price of diesel will see a bigger drop of R1.26/ for 0.005% sulphur and R1.18l for 0.05% sulphur, Illuminating paraffin sees a reduction of R1.24
The retail price of 93 unleaded petrol will decrease 62c/l while 95 unleaded drops 76c/l.
The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will fall by 93 c/l, meanwhile the maximum LP Gas Retail Price, will increase by 11 cents per kilogram.
The department says this is due to oil prices stabilising as major shippers resume operations.
From today, fuel prices will be:
? 93 unleaded: R22.17
? 95 unleaded: R22.49
? 0.05% diesel: R20.63
? 0.005% diesel: R20.73
COAST
? 95 unleaded: R21.77
? 0.05% diesel: R19.91
? 0.005% diesel: R20.02
The Automobile Association (AA) said they were still concerned despite the price drops.
?Although we are expecting fuel to be cheaper in January, we remain concerned about the overall high prices which impact on all consumers. If the expected decreases are realised, petrol prices will still be higher than they were in January 2023, but diesel prices will be marginally cheaper than at the same time. We must see all of this in the context of consumers who are still recovering from steep fuel price hikes in September and October.?
