The community of Makwane Village in the Free State is still shocked after a 16- year old boy stabbed his stepfather and his biological mother to death on Tuesday.
As if that is not enough, the unruly 16-year old further killed his five-year old brother with a spade.
Witnesses who wished not to be named told ZiMoja that the boy, who cannot be named because he is a minor and he has not appeared in a court of law, suspect he had anger issues
"We think that the young boy has anger issues after his stepfather moved in with his mother. There was a change in behaviour as he would talk back to his stepfather and mother when they reprimanded him. At first we thought it was a stage because there are some children who become jealous of their parent?s new partners. We never thought that we would see a day where in this quiet village a young boy would commit such a gruesome crime," a neighbour said.
Another neighbour said the actions of the young boy are as a result of dropping out from school and hanging out with the wrong crowd. "He used to be a nice child who loved football but now everyone fears him. He began his terror on Saturday when he destroyed all the windows in his parents? four room house.
The neighbour who is very close to the family said that the16-year old boy deserved to rot in jail for his actions.
"We tried to intervene when he was breaking windows but we did not succeed. We had to call the cops who took him away but they released him on Tuesday because of his age. The South Africa justice system needs to be challenged. More and more young people are committing serious crimes and they are aware that they won?t stay long in jail," the neighbour said.
The neighbour said that they suspect that the boy killed them because he was angry at them for calling cops on him.
Police State spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring confirmed the incident.
"There?s a case opened, A minor was arrested and he is expected to appear at Makwane Magistrate Court soon. We will communicate his appearance later because social workers need to engage this matter as the suspect is a minor," said Mophiring.
